Problem Space
Seniors who have trouble grocery shopping or cooking want to eat healthy and nutritious during the pandemic, but they lack nutrition knowledge and there are various restrictions on the menus currently available in meal delivery services. How might we design a mobile application for seniors that helps fulfill their nutritional needs?
User Interview
We’ve asked 10 questions about the interviewee’s goals, feelings, and frustrations relating to her food experience.
Persona
👵🏻 Ravi Patel
Bio: Ravi is a widowed senior who lives alone in a senior apartment. She has trouble grocery shopping alone because she cannot drive and groceries are heavy to carry. During the pandemic, the food experience has been more difficult because she is worried about exposure to the covid virus outside of her home.
Core Needs: She wants to order food online and the food can be delivered to a specific location. She also needs to know that the food she eats is healthy and nutritious for her body. She expects someone can help her understand what foods are suitable for her.
Frustrations: 1. Lack of option to choose different cuisines. 2. Not convenient to inform the delivery person when there is a change of time and location. 3. Food waste for a specific food that she does not eat.
Requirements and Goals

Result
The design effectively solves the problem of the seniors buying food that is good for their health, especially during the global pandemic. Most users think the settings are friendly to seniors and the system is easy to use. Also, they agree the app has solved their basic requirements.
Reflection
Designing a solution to start from scratch is not an easy task. It required extensive research, thinking, discussion, repeated attempts, and overturning the own results. I was glad the group finished the project in two weeks and fully implemented our initial plan. I hoped that in the near future I would see more and more applications designed to meet the needs of the seniors and be friendly to them.
